Playlists

Music is a huge part of my writing. I use it to focus and to help set a theme or voice for my books. It was especially important while writing When Stars Come Out. I needed music that helped me remember High School, and that could elicit all the feels. Some of my favorite bands were (and still are) The Academy Is..., My Chemical Romance, Paramore, and Fall Out Boy. The playlists here are just a few chosen songs of the many I listened to while writing. Each song speaks to something in When Stars Come Out, and while I can't go into detail on each one, I've offered a summary of just a few below.

Ron Pope – A Drop in the Ocean

The Neighbourhood – Sweater Weather

Tom Odell – Hold Me

Plumb – I Want You here

Archis – Bittersweet

Bring Me the Horizon – Throne

Boys Like Girls – The Great Escape

Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark

Ella Henderson – Beautifully Unfinished

Lana Del Ray – Lust for Life

My Chemical Romance – I’m Not Okay (I Promise)

Twenty One Pilots – Trees

Daughter – Medicine

Amber Run – I Found

Andrew Belle – In My Veins

Taking Back Sunday - MakeDamnSure

When Stars Come Out

*A note: A Drop in the Ocean by Ron Pope has always been Shy and Anora’s anthem. Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood has always helped me with the feel of the book—that sort of dark, smoky, and sweet environment. Bittersweet by Archis is definitely creepy and also helped with vibes. Last, I Will Follow You Into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie pulled so heavily on the themes of my book, I listened to it on repeat while writing certain chapters.
